Baking Project

Practical baking and entrepreneurship skills supporting self-employment and income-generating opportunities for women and other community members.

Women's Baking Programme

Matrix Algebra CBO implemented a six-week baking training programme in which 56 women from Rongai developed practical food-production skills. Participants attended six-hour sessions twice a week.

The programme used locally made ovens designed to consume minimal charcoal or briquettes. Participants learned to bake cakes and prepare foods including kebabs, samosas and roasted meat, as well as make ice cream. The programme formed part of Matrix Algebra’s work to provide practical, income-generating skills that can support financial independence and sustainable livelihoods.

2026 Baking Skills Development

In 2026, Matrix Algebra CBO continued baking skills-development activities. Participants developed practical skills in preparing and baking products including bread, cakes and other baked goods.

Participants were also introduced to basic business and entrepreneurship concepts intended to help them apply their baking skills in sustainable income-generating activities.
